If you regularly fly on business you probably have a routine, and might even a bag packed with everything you need, so that you can fly at a moment’s notice. If you’re not a seasoned business traveller, or often forget something important, here’s what you need to remember.

1. Make a list of everything you need well in advance. If you need visas, or have to order currency, or need security clearance, it’s a good idea to do it as soon as possible. Don’t forget that you’ll need leisure clothes, and other accessories as well as everything you need to do your job abroad. Make sure that you know how long it will take to get to the airport, and allow plenty of time on the day.

2. It’s important that you make sure you’re aware of any customs or other etiquette issues before you arrive. You wouldn’t want to act inappropriately or offend the people you’re visiting or trying to do business with.

3. It’s a good idea to book your airport car park space in advance. This means that you’ll know exactly where you’re going to park, and will save you both time and money.

4. Don’t forget to make sure that you have adequate travel insurance. You might need to arrange it yourself, or you might be covered by your work insurance policy. It’s a good idea to check, so that you have time to get yourself covered if necessary.

5. If you need to travel around or if you’re going to have some time on your hands, then why not think about sorting out a hire car?

6. Remember to print out any travel documentation you might need, such as your tickets, and also make a note of flight numbers, travel insurance details and contact phone number and your passport number.

7. Make sure that you know where you’re going, and how you’re going to get there once you arrive at the airport. Will you need to get a taxi, or will somebody be picking you up? If you are getting a tax, make sure that you’ve got some local currency on you so that you don’t have to find a bank or cash machine.

8. It’s important to be aware of the exchange rate, so that you have an idea of how much things cost. Depending on the country you’re in the currency may be very different from what you’re used to.

9. In this modern age, it’s essential that you charge your electrical items before you fly, and that you take all the chargers you need for laptop, phone, MP3 player and camera.

10. Make sure you’ve got all the files and documents, samples or reports you need. It might be worth keeping your files online, or on a USB pen drive as well as on your laptop, just in case. Now you know what you need to do before you fly on business, you’ll never forget anything, or be unprepared again.
