If you are flying overseas for a holiday or to visit friends and has to change airports and planes quite a few times, you may find, from no fault of your own that you missed a plane. This has happened to me a number of times, and I have found, that the best way to handle it, is to have a very relaxed attitude. There is no point in panicking, yelling or crying at this time.

Often flights can be late, and when you are trying to catch connecting flights, anxiety can set in. There is no point in running to catch a plane and ending up out of breath, sweaty and miserable because you’ve missed it. Just make your way there and get your ticket changed over to another flight. Most airports have wonderful shops, restaurants and bars so if you have time to spare, read a book, do some browsing or have a meal.

Remember, there are also Internet outlets, so you can e-mail anyone who is scheduled to pick you up and tell them that you won’t be arriving until later. Often planes can be overbooked, and you can find yourself being offered a deal, which includes money, an overnight stay in a luxury hotel, in a city that you have never been to before. Sometimes it really pays to take up an offer like this. And if you have an open mind and a relaxed attitude then you can make the most of what you are offered.

Tips For Long Flights

Airline No Comments »

Any flight that is longer than about four hours can be quite challenging for most people, unless you are able to travel in first or business class. Flying an economy long haul flight in cramped quarters squashed in next to other people that you don’t know can be very trying. In fact, if you have had a bad experience, it can enough to put you off flying forever.

Once you have done a number of these flights, you get to know a few tricks, that help you along the way. No one really talks about these tips and tricks, and it’s not until you get back on a flight, that’s going to take 12 to 24 hours, that you realize you need to know them. The first one I want to talk about today, is what you were going to wear on this strip. Most people want to look smart when they check in and go through customs, however, the last thing you need to wear while on one of these long flights, is your most formfitting clothes and high heeled shoes. One way to get over this, is to take a very lightweight tracksuit and soft ballet style shoes, and change in the bathroom once the flight is underway. Change back into your arrival clothes, just before breakfast is served at your destination.

As the flight is getting ready to take off, have a good look around you and see if you can spot any empty seats. What you are looking for and is at least three seats next to each other in a row that has no passengers sitting on it. If you find one of these sets of seats, as soon as the seatbelt sign goes off, and you’re allowed to stand out grab your bag and sit in one of those seats. Put your bag on the seat next to you and then lift the hand rests between the 3 seats. Grab the pillows and blankets off the seats and make yourself a bed on the three seats and then lie in it. Having this much space, will make it easy for you to sleep nearly the whole trip, that way you will wake up bright and chirpy when you arrive at your destination. If you decide you don’t want to be woken to eat, just ask the flight attendants not to wake you please. One thing you must remember, with this trick, is that you must return to your original seat for landing as the plane has been the weighed and needs to be balanced.

How to Get Through the Airport Quickly

Airline No Comments »

In the last decade or so, it seems like every year people complain more and more about all the hassles of going to the airport. And it’s true that the whole process has become quite ridiculous, but it’s really not as bad as people say. The security checkpoint lines are longer, and it’s unfortunate that your loved ones are no longer allowed to meet you at the gate, but beyond that, it’s really just the same old thing. Airlines have been trouble for decades. It’s not like flight delays are a new thing.

So, as always, if you know the secrets for getting through the airport quickly, it’s really not that bad. Let’s look at some of the things you can do to get from the parking lot to your gate in no time.

Pack light: Everyone already tries to pack light, but if you want to get through the airport quickly, you have to take it a step further. First of all, get rid of that suitcase. You want to get down to the point where you don’t have to check anything at all. And since most airlines are only allowing one modest-sized carry-on these days, you have to try to fit everything in one bag.

The reasons are obvious. Checking bags and picking up bags up are real hassles, and they’re also time-consuming. And with many airlines, if you don’t have a bag, you can check in online or at an electronic kiosk without having to deal with a person at all.

Pack safe: By “safe” I mean this: pack nothing that could potentially raise issues at security. When in doubt, leave it behind. Leave metal things out of your bag. Don’t bring a corkscrew, matches, or scissors, and keep all your (travel-sized) toiletries in one clear plastic bag.

Fly with smart airlines: If possible book your ticket with an airline that makes getting through the airport easily. For example, airlines like American and United let you check in online as much as 24 hours before your flight, and they usually also have electronic kiosks at the airport. If you must go with one of those discount or international airlines, you’re probably going to have to do things the old-fashioned way.

Be ready for security: Again, bring as few metal objects as possible. If you’re bringing your laptop or camera, make them very easy to take out of your bag. Also, be sure to wear shoes that are easy to slip on and off, and put your extra clothing layers into your bag before going through the checkpoint.

Other than these things, the flight process is basically out of your control. Unfortunately, you can’t do anything to make your flight take off earlier. However, if you think you’re going to be cutting things close with time, try to reserve a seat in one of the front rows of the plane. These usually board at least 10 minutes before the seats in the back, and they are also the first to deplane.

Few Tips on Travelling From Luton Airport

Getting to the airport

You will find numerous challenges, when you are planning a flight out of Luton Airport. Your first challenge is to get to the airport and if you intend to travel by car you will probably have to use M1 whether you are coming from the North or South of the country. Unfortunately, the motorway is notoriously busy at this point with both airport traffic and cars heading to or coming out of London.

Apart from the M25 which the M1 links onto, this is probably the second busiest strip of motorway in the country and because of the volume of traffic any accident can quickly develop into a significant tail back and could cause sufficient delay for you to even miss your flight. All this can easily be avoided if you give yourself as much time as possible or even set off the day before and use a Luton airport hotel and parking deal which is described below.

Other areas you need to consider are as follows

Are you familiar with the airport and the parking services?

Anyone who is not familiar with the layout of the airport and the location of the car parks and their fees can easily discover that they are spending a good proportion of their travel budget unnecessarily just to park their car. In addition, without comprehensive understanding of the areas where the car park is located and the security provided, many travelers may have real fears for the safety of their vehicle while they are away.

To avoid this possibility it is far better to spend a little time researching what both the on and off car parks provide in the way of security and to choose car parks approved under the Safer Park Mark Scheme which will at least give you reassurance that the car park has been vetted and approved by a third party which in this case is the Chief Police officers Association who operate this scheme.

An airport parking comparison site will also outline not only the security arrangements, but they will also describe the location of the car parks including distances from the airport, transfer times and how often the transfers operate.

They will also give a range of parking fees to select from and you will note that just by booking before you travel you can save as much as 30% on the turn up or gate price and this alone is worth knowing.

Luton airport parking options

On Airport

The airport offers long term, mid term and short term car parks with the cheapest being the long term with the fees based on distance from the airport and the regularity of the transfers. The short term car park is the most expensive and is really more for dropping off and collecting people and should never be used for parking more than 24 hours otherwise you will be in for a nasty shock.

Off Airport

Airparks car park is about 12 minutes ride from the airport and offers excellent value and is approved under the Safer Park Mark scheme.

Meet and Greet service

Especially useful if you have not much time or have to carry a lot of luggage. You drop off your car at the short stay and walk to check in. This costs about 2 ½ times more than using the off airport car park.

Luton airport hotel and parking

This is becoming evermore popular because it allows you to travel down the day or evening before your flight avoiding all the pitfalls of being potentially delayed. There are several hotels to choose from with your parking included in the price. Once again full information will be given on where your car will be stored while you are away.

Parents Give Tips For Flying With Babies and Baby Travel Products

Airline No Comments »

Flying with a baby is a completely new experience. It can go as smoothly as the clouds you’re flying over, or as bumpy as the mountains you pass underneath. As a parent, the most necessary skill to learn is patience. Flying with a baby takes a lot of patience, but with these tips on traveling and what baby travel products to use, the trip can be a much easier experience than anticipated.

Parents from the U.S and Great Britain put their heads together to come up with good baby travel advice for parents traveling with a baby, and what baby travel products they should use.

Before the trip…

• Research your chosen airline’s website. The information you find – or lack thereof – can be a good indication of how helpful the flight attendants are going to be
• See if you can pre-order a baby bassinet for your flight. Some airlines only allow you to check if there are any bassinets at check-in. Booking this baby travel product in advance can really help with the stress of planning a flight and flying with a baby.

At the airport…

• Doing anything with a baby talks more time so make sure you add at least 45 minutes extra for check-in and connecting flights
• Smile sweetly and helplessly at the other customers. This will make it less likely for someone to yell at you if your baby starts to cry and could even help you make a jump in the line!
• When checking in, ask if the flight is full. Sometimes, assistants will block out the seat next to you in a less full flight. This can be extremely helpful when traveling with a baby.
• Get on the plane first and off the plane last. This gives you a better chance of gaining help from the flight attendant staff.

Changing diapers on a plane…

• Pack a small bag with the essential baby travel products to have with you on the plane; one diaper, a few wipes, perfumed nappy sack, etc. The best place to stash this is in the seat pocket in front of you.
• Note that most planes have a slightly larger bathroom in the back, which means slightly larger changing tables. Every little bit helps.

Staying sane…

• Keep smiling at the baby
• Ignore rude people
• Be prepared to lose stuff and don’t stress about it when you do
• Pack a mirror and lipstick. When you get stressed out, take a few minutes to put on some lipstick and give yourself a pep talk in the mirror.
• Look out for fast track customs and immigration check points for those traveling with infants.

Driving Directions to Sea-Tac Airport

Airline No Comments »

There are several different ways to drive to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The airport’s main terminal is located at 17801 International Blvd. (State Route 99) in Sea-Tac, Washington. If arriving from Seattle, north of Sea-Tac, the most popular way to get to the airport is to take Interstate 5 south for about ten miles to Exit 154B, and then drive west briefly on State Route (”SR”) 518.

Sea-Tac Airport can also be reached from the north via SR 509. From downtown Seattle, take SR 99 to the First Avenue Bridge, which becomes SR 509. Follow SR 509 until you reach the interchange with SR 518 in Burien. Turn left onto SR 518 and take it for approximately one mile to the east, then follow the signs to Sea-Tac Airport. This can be a good alternative route from downtown Seattle as traffic can be heavy on Interstate 5.

To get to the airport from the south of SeaTac, take Interstate 5 north to Exit 154, the Burien/SeaTac Exit. The exit takes you directly onto SR 518 westbound. Sea-Tac Airport is the first exit off SR518. The airport can also be reached from the south by taking Exit 151 off Interstate 5 onto S. 188th Street. Drive westbound on S. 188th Street to International Blvd. for about two miles. Sea-Tac Airport is on your right hand side. The airport can also be reached from the south or north via International Blvd. (SR 99), but it is a busy roadway with many traffic lights. Sea-Tac airport is about twenty miles north of Tacoma.

If arriving to the airport from Bellevue or the eastside, take SR 405 south to the Interstate 5 interchange. Continue straight as SR 405 south turns into SR 518 west. Take the first exit off SR 518 for the airport. The airport is located about fifteen miles southwest of Bellevue. From the cities of Normandy Park or Burien to the west of the airport, the most can be conveniently reached by taking either S. 188th Street eastbound to International Blvd. or by taking SR 518 eastbound to the airport exit.
